Want to be a Doctor but not Work in Hospital?

Who doesn’t like the tag of doctor before their name?

I like being called Dr. HEENA. This gives a very special and amazing feeling. But I never had any intention of studying biology or give NEET (that time AIPMT) or working in a hospital.

I did my Post Graduation in Mass Communication. But I still want ‘Doctor’ title before my name.

If you are just like me..who have no knowledge of biology or even science. There is one more way to get the prefix Dr. before your name.

You can always get this prefix regardless of your field. All you have to do is get a Ph.D. in your major subject.

Ph.D. stands for Doctor of Philosophy. It is the highest academic degree awarded by universities.

Ph.Ds are awarded for all the programs across the academic field. After completing PhD, you can always opt for various professions like a university professor, researcher, or scientist in many fields.

Students who have earned a Ph.D. may, in many jurisdictions, use the title Doctor.

Okay so, the question that arises now is ‘How to get into Ph.D. Program?’

There are various ways of getting into Ph.D.

But before knowing them, the major eligibility criteria to get into Ph.D. is you should have a PG degree, then only you can apply for Ph.D.

Some of the ways which could get you in Ph.D. program are as follows:
  1. UGC NET ( for Non-Science)
  2. CSIR NET (for Science)

These are national level exams for Lectureship and Junior Research Fellowship Program. If manage to qualify JRF then, you can join Ph.D. program within 2 years.

With the help of these exams you will get a chance to do your Ph.D. from India’s most prestigious colleges/universities which are approved by UGC.

But in case you do not have a PG degree, you can opt for IIT JAM, another national level exam.

This exam is for the candidates who want to do M.Sc. in various fields of science. These students can opt for Joint or Dual M.Sc.-Ph.D. program.

Through this exam you can take admission in various IITs, IISc and NITs.

Difference between Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D. Program and Dual M.Sc.-Ph.D. Program:

In Dual M.Sc. Ph.D. program, you cannot leave the university after completing your M.Sc. or else you will not be awarded any degree.

While in Joint M.Sc. Ph.D. program, you can leave the university after completing your M.Sc. Joint degree means that a student can work on two different degrees in parallel, either from same university or different.

I have decided to go for UGC NET 2019 and get into PhD program through it and the title ‘Doctor’ before my name ๐Ÿ˜œ

Its time to do something big. Don’t settle for just UG or PG, when there are other higher degrees waiting for you. Choose what makes you feel confident and proud of yourself.

All the best future Doctors ๐Ÿ˜Š
