to Post Graduation & also for jobs in both Government & Private Sector.
These competitive exams are organised by government as well as by institutions
themselves.
The propose of these exams is
to select the most deserving candidate for that required vacancy.
Below are some of the
Toughest & Prestigious Competitive Exams held across the India (not in order):

1. UPSC Civil Services Entrance Exam — World’s Third Toughest Exam
Civil Services Examination is
the toughest exam in India, conduct by Union Public Service Commission. This
exam is held to recruit most deserving candidates for various Central Govt
Services including Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service
(IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS) and others.
Over 9,00,00,0 candidates
every year appear for the same and the achievement rate is only 0.1–0.3%.
There are three levels of
this exam, namely: Preliminary exam, main exam and personality test or
interview.
2. IIT JEE (Joint Entrance Exam)
Indian Institute of
Technology (IIT) Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is from World’s toughest
engineering entrance exams with the success rate of around 1 in 45.
It is conducted to select the
most eligible candidates who wants to seek admission into undergraduate
engineering programmes at NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical
institutions.
It is conducted in two parts:
JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced.
3. GATE (Graduate Aptitude
Test in Engineering) Entrance Exam
This Exam is for the
candidates who want to take admission in M. Tech/ M. S Programmes in various
Government Engineering Colleges including IITs and NITs.
GATE Scores are valid for
various PSU Companies recruitment that operate under the Indian Government.
The scores obtained in GATE
are valid for a period of three years, from the date of announcement of
results.
This exam brings in more than
9.7 lakh candidates. It is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science
and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur,
Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of:
a. National Coordination
Board — GATE
b. Department of Higher
Education
c. Ministry of Human
Resources Development (MHRD)
d. Government of India
4. CAT (Common Aptitude Test)
CAT is conducted to get an
entry into premier management and business schools such as IIMs.
It was started by Indian
Institutes of Management (IIM) for selecting understudies for their business
organization programs. It is directed by one of the IIMs each year.
Common Admission Test (CAT)
scores a candidate on the bases of his aptitude, mathematical and language
skills.
CAT has success rate of 1
selection out of 200.
Apart from the IIMs, CAT
scores are accepted by various colleges offering MBAs.
5. AIIMS (All India Institute
of Medical Sciences) Entrance Exam
AIIMS is an Autonomous Body,
which conducts its own Pan India Entrance Exam for medical students. This Exam
offers a very limited number of seats.
It is conducted twice a year
for the MD/MS post-graduate courses. It includes 2 sessions for selection of
candidates. In each session there are approx. 124 seats.
Out of the which, approx. 25%
seats are reserved for AIIMS (UG) students and 50% for reserved categories.
This reservation makes it one of the toughest exams to clear in India!
There are 700 seats (100 for
each institute) for UG courses in AIIMS.
6. NEET (National Eligibility
cum Entrance Test)
NEET is an entrance exam
conducted for admissions into Medical Colleges at both UG level (NEET UG) &
PG level (NEET PG).
The UG courses include both
MBBS and BDS.
It will be conducted by
National Testing Agency 2019 onwards.
Conducted to shortlist the
most deserving Assistant Lecturers & Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
candidates in various Indian colleges & universities.
The difficulty level of this
exam is such that many candidates fail to clear it even in fourth or fifth
attempt.
Previously it was conducted
by CBSE, but from Dec 2018 onwards it will be conducted by NTA.
The success rate is around
6%.
CSIR NET is the part of UGC
NET. It is conducted for candidates who are from Science field. CSIR NET is
conducted by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. The best part
is that you can also pursue higher studies at the same time.
8. CLAT (Common Law Admission
Test)
It is a centralised exam conducted for admissions to National Law Universities. It is conducted for admissions to integrated UG programs & PG programs.
Through CLAT candidates can
get into 16 National Law Universities in India.
It is a 2 hours test, which
comprises of MCQs on Mathematics, English, GK, Legal Aptitude and Logical
reasoning.
Its scores are also accepted
by many private Law Schools of India.
Those who qualify CLAT are
eligible to obtain admission in any of the following courses:
a. BA LLB (Hons)
b. BSc LLB (Hons)
c. BA LLB (Hons)
d. BSW LLB (Hons)
e. BCom LLB (Hons)
f. L.L.M.
9. NDA (National Defence
Academy) Exam
NDA exam is conducted for
recruiting candidates to armed force, air force and naval force.
The interviews of the
candidates who have cleared the written part, are conducted by the Services
Selection Board of Ministry of Defence.
The candidates are selected
on the basis of written examination, psychological aptitude test, intelligence
and personality test and SSB Interview.
It is conducted by UPSC.
The selected candidates will
gain 3 years of education and training at the Academy and will be awarded a
Baccalaureate degree.
The naval candidates will
gain a B.Tech degree after four years.
10. CA (Chartered
Accountancy)
Chartered Accountancy is one
of the toughest exams with success rate just around 8%.
It takes at least 5 years to complete
the course. The CAs from India are respected worldwide.
It is a three-level exam
conducted by the ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India).
The first level is the Common
Proficiency Test (CPT) followed by the Integrated Professional
Competence
Course (IPCC), which has a total of seven subjects that it encompasses, split
into groups of four and three.
The final exam called the CA
Final Examination, is where all the blood, sweat and tears merge to give forth
one of the toughest exams in the world and not just India.
